And she colours herself as a wife, mother, and grandmother who has worked at a variety of vocations, including those of fitness instructor, customer service representative, school bus and truck driver, and business owner.
Brigitte Belton is the Ontario Party candidate for Elgin-Middlesex-London and is better known as one of the organizers of the Freedom Convoy which travelled to Ottawa earlier this year.
Belton is a truck driver who is based out of Wallaceburg but spends the spring and summer in the Aylmer area.
She advises she is anything but a politician.
Belton says she entered politics as a way to fight for the betterment of the community.
As for the Ontario Party, according to the principles on its website, it is “guided by a solemn desire to ensure the common good of the people of Ontario, present and future, while respecting the inherited wisdom and sacrifice of previous generations embodied in our culture and traditions.
The party was established in May of 2018 based on the principles of freedom, family and faith. The party leader is Derek Sloan, a former Conservative MP who calls himself a patriotic conservative without apology.
When it comes to affordable housing, Belton says we need to take the foreign influence element out of housing.
If elected the party would strike a money laundering task force charged with rooting out corruption and instituting regulatory changes related to real estate sales and purchases.
On the issue of healthcare, the party stresses the solution is to allow non-profit organizations and private corporations to build, own, and manage hospitals.
Belton adds it’s time to get nurses and doctors let go because of vaccine mandates back on duty.
The Ontario Party would also increase public hospital bed capacity and hire thousands more healthcare workers.
One area where Belton strays from Ontario Party policy is the hot-button issue right now of abortion.
She is very much pro-choice on a variety of subjects.
If increased government interference in your life is of concern, Belton says your only choice in the June election is to vote Ontario Party.
Her decision to enter politics and run under the Ontario Party banner, says Belton, is her next step in taking back freedom for Ontarians.
