You could be getting a knock on your door next week as the St. Thomas Fire Department and Doug Tarry Homes prepare to host a community smoke alarm blitz.
myFM spoke with Chief Fire Prevention Officer Kim Destun who says the blitz will focus on the newer subdivisions of St. Thomas.
Destun says that while home builders are responsible for installing smoke and CO alarms, homeowners need to know how they operate.
She notes that crews will be out with door hangers for those who are not home at the time of the blitz, as the message is something that can’t be missed.
The smoke alarm blitz will be taking place Monday, May 9th.
