St. Thomas Stars defenseman Oliver Bonk is being rewarded for his outstanding 2021-2022 season.
The 17 year old, who also played 10 games for the London Knights this season was named the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Most Outstanding First Year Defenseman.
In addition to the honour, Bonk was named to the Western Conference All-Rookie team, joining Leamington Flyers players Connor MacPherson, Ryan MacPherson, and Gavin Grundner, Chatham Maroon Noah Szabo, and goaltender Owen Flores of the London Nationals.
The Most Outstanding First Year Defenseman Award and the Western Conference Rookie All-Star Team have been awarded since the 1999-2000 season. Bonk becomes the 7th St. Thomas Star to win the Rookie Defenseman MVP Award and the 4th Star to be named to the Rookie All-Star Team.
Earlier this season, Bonk was a gold medal winner for Team Canada at the Capital City Challenge in Ottawa where the top underage players across the country competed against each other, as well as Canada’s National Women’s Hockey Team.
