Plenty of hands went into ensuring the success of Elgin County Warden Mary French’s fundraising gala at the end of April.
And it was dozens of hands that inspired the gala itself as a charity event for Terrace Lodge in Malahide.
The evening was in celebration of These Hands: Touching Memoirs of Seniors Living in Our Community, an inspirational photo essay of 56 Elgin residents, explains French.
A media release notes, “this publication provides readers with the courageous adventures, tear-jerking love stories, triumphs and tribulations, and the livelihoods of the hands behind each thoughtfully curated black and white photograph.”
The fundraisng goal was $20,000, however the gala held at the Aylmer Old Town Hall raised $27,500 toward the Terrace Lodge redevelopment project.
Scheduled to be completed in 2024, the project is designed to better meet the needs of long-term care residents. French explains the motivation behind her gala.
