Canada Road Safety Week proved to be a busy one for the Ontario Provincial Police as 9,392 traffic charges were laid during what they call their most robust traffic safety campaign of the year.
Officers maintained a strong presence on roads across the province during the six-day campaign, running from May 17-23, cracking down on aggressive, careless and other poor driving habits.
The OPP responded to 935 collisions, three of which were fatal and the majority said to be preventable.
Aggressive drivers wreaked havoc on the roadways, with 8,020 speeding charges and 138 stunt driving/racing charges laid.
Another unsettling statistic is the number of impaired drivers on our roads- 216 during Canada Road Safety Week alone.
Other charges laid during the campaign include 177 for distracted driving, 151 for careless driving and 632 charges for failing to wear a seatbelt.
