Affordability is the number one issue on the mind of voters as we head toward the June 2nd election in Ontario.
While housing makes up a large part of the equation, gas prices and the price of food are also key in our day-to-day lives. And those two factors have a strong link.
myFM spoke with Peggy Brekveld, President of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture who says it’s been hard for farmers who get hit twice as hard as they need the fuel to produce our food.
Brekveld says to avoid raising prices more than they have to, farmers eat some of the costs.
But she says costs go hand in hand with how they grow food. They plant it, give it the conditions it needs, then harvest it with equipment.
She notes a couple pieces of advice for Ontario consumers.
Brekveld says famers also have grave concerns about margins thanks to inflation. However, she is hopeful a good crop will help farmers in the region deal with the issue.
