It’s Shakespeare with a twist, Wednesday through Saturday in Pinafore Park.
Central Elgin Collegiate Institute Theatre presents the Seussification of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
An evening of activities for young people beginning at 5:30, capped with Shakespeare meets Dr. Seuss.
CECI dramatic arts teacher Sarah Abbott says the 30 or so students involved in the production are excited about performing outdoors in the park.
Prior to the production, there are activities for children including drama and lawn games, arts and crafts, science experiments and a photo scavenger hunt.
The production itself starts at 6:15 p.m. and runs about an hour at the Morris F. Jones Memorial Bandshell in Pinafore Park and afterward, explains Abbott, a post-show chat with the CECI students.
As we ease out of the pandemic, what we now need is a dose of joy and laughter. That’s the motivation behind the CECI Theatre production of the Seussification of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Abbott explains the decision to pivot to this production aimed at a younger audience was initiated by students in the cast.
Bring a lawn chair or blanket with admission pay what you can, $2 is suggested.
