Work is expected to begin later this year on the city’s new downtown civic square, adjacent to St. Thomas Public Library.
What is to be known as Westlake-Evans Civic Park will be a green space and activity centre on the site of the former Colin McGregor Justice Building.
What is missing at this stage, notes city Coun. Steve Peters, are swings and other playground equipment.
Jeff Bray, the city’s director of parks, recreation and property management agreed with Peters on the lack of play structure items within the core.
At the June 6 council meeting, Bray advised he has reached out to the project consultant to determine the feasibility of adding such equipment.
