It’s a highly sought after designation and Port Stanley’s Main Beach has managed to keep it in place for 12 years now.
Since 2010, Main Beach in Port Stanley has meet the 33 environmental, safety and cleanliness standards in order to receive the Blue Flag designation.
In fact, Port Stanley was the first beach on Lake Erie to be granted the award.
The mission of Blue Flag is to promote sustainability in the tourism sector, through environmental education, environmental protection and other sustainable development practices.
This year, only 22 beaches and 10 marinas in all of Canada received the designation.
