A cut to the provincial gas tax promised by Ontario Premier Doug Ford took effect as of July 1st, lowering the price by 5.7 cents per litre.
In addition, the fuel tax covering diesel will dropped by 5.3 cents per litre, with both price cuts set to remain in effect until December 31st.
Before the long weekend, regular fuel prices were hovering at close to $2 per litre, now sitting around $1.86.
The province notes that with the proposed gas tax cut and the recently announced elimination of licence plate renewal fees, households across the province could benefit from an average combined savings of about $465 in 2022.
