Chelsea Hillier, the daughter of former Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston MPP Randy Hillier, has been ordered to pay $97,000 in damages for false and defamatory tweets made in November 2021 against a Carleton University English instructor.
The plaintiff said Hillier’s tweets damaged her reputation and mental health, and exposed her to harassment and humiliation.
Hillier did not defend the lawsuit and has been ordered to post a retraction, remove any content about the plaintiff and is prohibited from communicating any further false, defamatory, or disparaging statements about the plaintiff.
She was the People’s Party of Canada candidate in Elgin-Middlesex-London in last year’s federal election, finishing with just under 12 per cent of the total vote.
