At first glance, it might seem like an intimidating job. But First Student in St. Thomas is helping to relieve some of the uncertainty around being a school bus driver through a community event being hosted next week.
Taking place July 20th at the Joe Thornton Community Centre, Kevin Murray Branch Manager at First Student Canada in St. Thomas explains further.
With a bus driver shortage impacting a number of companies across the province Murray notes, they’re not the exception.
Adding that for most drivers, all it took was giving it a try!
myFM also had the chance to speak with Lynn Pincombe, who is the Safety Officer and Trainer at First Student St. Thomas.
She says she’s heard it all, in terms of why individuals don’t think driving is for them.
Adding there are many perks to the job these days!
She notes if you have young children who don’t attend school themselves yet, First Student even lets you bring them on your route each day.
For those hoping to give bus driving a try, stop by the Joe Thornton Community Centre on July 20th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a BBQ, refreshments and ice cream also supplied at the event.
