Failing to move over for a stopped emergency vehicle is the OPP’s marquee infraction this Civic Holiday weekend.
Highway Safety Sgt., Kerry Schmidt notes everyone wants to arrive alive this weekend, including first responders.
Schmidt says that last year on OPP patrolled roads – some 900 charges were laid against motorists who failed to move over for stopped emergency vehicles.
He adds as motorist, you have no idea what’s ahead of you when you see the flashing lights, so slow down and move over.
Schmidt says since 1989, 5 OPP officers have been killed in traffic while investigating a roadside incident or helping a motorist in trouble.
