As our local department and members of the community continue to mourn the loss of firefighter Nicholas Cheeseman, SubZero ice cream shop in St. Thomas is stepping up in a big way to support those he left behind.
From 3 to 7 p.m. today, the SubZero ice cream truck will be set up at Fire Station 1 on Wellington Street, with 100% of the tips, sales, and donations going back to the Cheeseman family.
Co-owner Heather Payne notes they are honored to help in any way that they can.
Payne adds that members of the St. Thomas Fire Department will be assisting in the fundraiser by scooping ice cream in a show of support for one of their own.
For those unable to make it out to the fire hall today, SubZero will continue to accept donations all week, with a portion of in-store sales also supporting the cause.
Stay tuned for our Community Spotlight feature following the fundraiser this evening.
