It’s on days like today, though tragic in nature, we are reminded how great it is to be a part of the community of St. Thomas-Elgin.
On Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m., the SubZero ice cream truck was set up at Fire Station 1 on Wellington Street, with 100% of the tips, sales, and donations going back to the family of Nicholas Cheeseman, the local firefighter who lost his life on Thursday in a motorcycle collision on Elm Street.
Cheeseman, who was 34 and a four year member of the St. Thomas Fire Department, leaves behind a wife and 5 month old son.
We spoke with SubZero Co-owner Heather Payne who says they were honored to help.
Members of the St. Thomas Fire Department and St. Thomas Police Service assisted in the fundraiser by scooping ice cream for those who came out to support the cause.
For those who were unable to make it out to the fire hall but wish to support the Cheeseman family, Payne adds you can stop into SubZero all week.

myFM will update you on the totals raised from the fundraisers when they become available.
