It’s back to work today for Ontario’s MPPs, as a new session of the legislature begins.
The start of the new session will be the first sitting since the Progressive Conservatives won a second majority government in early June.
The first order of business will be electing a Speaker, with two Tories vying for the job. This will be followed by a tight schedule including a throne speech, a budget and a return to question period.
One hot topic of discussion at Queen’s Park this week will likely be the on-going health-care crisis and skyrocketing inflation, but whether any new measures will be added to deal with them remains to be seen.
The government has been facing growing pressure to scrap legislation passed in 2019 that capped wage increases for nurses and other public sector workers for three years.
