The first week-long pride celebration in St. Thomas and Elgin was officially launched Monday morning on the steps of city hall.
After the official proclamation by Mayor Joe Preston, myFM spoke with Martin Withenshaw of the Rainbow Optimist Club about the significance of this week.
Withenshaw explained why the week is held in August and not during Pride Month observed in June.
He went on to note the significance of working with the St. Thomas Police Service and having officers attend the functions.
Here is a listing of events on tap for the rest of the week.
