Finding no reason to debate the matter, city council Monday unanimously approved proceeding with the Seven Feathers Crosswalk.
The crossing at Mondamin and Talbot streets is to be painted bright orange with seven white feathers.
It is to be the city’s truth and reconciliation project.
The feathers represent the seven principles of Indigenous communities: love, respect, courage, honesty, humility, truth and wisdom.
Due to the upcoming reconstruction – Phase 3 of the Talbot Streetscaping, pending council approval – city staff is recommending the use of basic road paints and stencils for this year’s crosswalk and employing more durable, long-lasting pavement markings during next year’s reconstruction.
Cost of the temporary paint used this year is approximately $1,000 to $2,000 per application and is to be completed in early September.
