The provincial and federal governments are each investing almost $1.7 million to expand high-speed internet service in Elgin.
More than 1,100 homes, farms and businesses across the county will soon be connected to fast, reliable internet.
Elgin-Middlesex-London MPP Rob Flack made the announcement Friday in Rodney, noting “I know firsthand how important high-speed internet access is for farm families and businesses across Elgin county and rural Ontario,”
Another 390 homes, farms and businesses in Southwold Township will benefit from the internet expansion by the end of the year.
Flack calls it critical infrastructure needed to support residents in Elgin county.
The lack of access to high-speed internet is totally unacceptable today, argues West Elgin Mayor Duncan McPhail.
And so Friday’s announcement comes as welcome news.
The contracts to expand broadband services in Elgin county were awarded by Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology (SWIFT) Inc., a not-for-profit corporation initiated by local municipalities to address connectivity in Southwestern Ontario.
