A close call Thursday afternoon for Police Service Dog Axle.
St. Thomas Police officers were attempting to catch a 29-year-old man on a bicycle wanted on numerous warrants.
Axle took chase but was struck by a passing vehicle.
The man was eventually apprehended, taken into custody and charged with theft and escaping custody.
Axle was taken to an animal hospital for observation and is recovering at home.
