The province’s police watchdog has been called to investigate injuries sustained by a 29-year-old man during an arrest on September 1st.
St. Thomas Police officers attempted to stop the man wanted on multiple arrest warrants, but he fled the scene on a bicycle. Officers eventually caught up with him and he was taken into custody. During this process, he sustained an undisclosed injury. As a result, the Special Investigation Unit was notified and will lead the inquiry per their mandate.
The SIU is a civilian law enforcement agency that investigates incidents involving police officers where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
