Getting out and enjoying nature just isn’t the same when you are confined to doing it virtually.
That was the situation the last three years with the Carolinian Forest Festival at Springwater Conservation Area.
myFM spoke with festival coordinator Betsy McClure as students arrived this morning to enjoy a return to the outdoor event.
Over 2,000 Grade 6 and 7 students from 24 area schools will attend the four-day event and participate in hands-on and interactive activities.
McClure explains what the students can expect during the day.
In addition, the students will explore topics related to climate change, species at risk and biodiversity.
She stresses the festival would not be possible without high school volunteers.
McClure adds, “We want to help students discover the value and importance of the Carolinian Life Zone and our local forests.”
