Education Minister Stephen Lecce says he’s disappointed but not surprised that education workers represented by CUPE have voted 96.5 per cent in favour of a strike to back their contract demands.
Lecce says the union is moving toward a strike that will hurt kids while rejecting what he says is a reasonable offer that also protects the most generous benefits and pension plan in the country.
But CUPE says they can’t afford to come down from a demand for annual wage increases of 11.7 per cent.
