Project Tiny Hope got a huge shot in the arm from a roarin’ good time at Canadale.
Their Dino Days promotion featuring five massive animatronic dinosaurs generated $21,500 in proceeds.
The money will support YWCA Project Tiny Hope.
Pauline Intven-Casier from Canadale explains why they chose Project Tiny Hope.
Project Tiny Hope is a partnership between the YWCA, Sanctuary Homes and Doug Tarry Homes to build energy-efficient, affordable tiny homes on a vacant lot at 21 Kains Street.
Doug Tarry Limited contributed $280,000 for cleanup of the brownfield site.
Sanctuary Homes of Elgin-St. Thomas donated $200,000 to purchase the lot, site of the former Elgin Handles.
Intven-Casier explains the thinking behind Dino Days.
She says Canadale has always made it a priority to support the community in St. Thomas and surrounding area.
She told myFM about Canadale’s next undertaking and the future of the dinosaurs.
The project will consist of 20 tiny homes and 20 units in a three-storey apartment building.
At the announcement of the project in May of 2021, Doug Tarry stressed, “A minimum of 30 per cent of all units will be set at deeply affordable rents with the remainder at slightly below market rent. Further, a minimum of 20 per cent of the units will be designed to meet CMHC accessible and barrier-free standards.”
