For more than three decades John Boe served with the St. Thomas Fire Department.
For much of that time he was the muscular dystrophy fundraising chair.
Last week at the main fire hall, he was recognized for his efforts in raising funds for Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
From 1977 through to this year, city firefighters have helped raise over $291,000, acknowledged Stephanie Singeris, community fundraising officer with Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
Singeris updated the total amount contributed since 1954 by firefighters across the country.
Much of the money raised in St. Thomas has been through boot tolls and at events like the annual Fire Muster.
