Premier Doug Ford says the province was resuming contract negotiations with the union representing 55,000 education workers Tuesday with an improved offer — particularly for lower-income workers
Bargaining resumed and schools re-opened after CUPE members ended a two-day walkout after Ford promised to repeal legislation that imposed contracts on the workers.
The premier said Tuesday morning that he’s glad both sides are back at negotiations and all he’s asking is that they work together and move forward.
But he cautioned that any increases for the CUPE workers could lead to “tens of billions of dollars” in increases for teachers — which he says is money that’s needed for schools, health care, transit and infrastructure.
