A community group in Belmont is helping Elgin OPP to curb speeding.
Over a two-year period, the Belmont and Area Community Policing Committee has raised over $9,000 to allow for the purchase of a pair of mobile speed signs. The signs will be deployed by Elgin OPP across the county in an effort to deter drivers who insist on speeding. The ultimate goal is voluntary compliance to the posted speed limit.
Elgin OPP advise speeding is among the most dangerous of driving behaviours and is linked to fatal, personal injury and property damage collisions every year.
