A power boost for the Elgin County Railway Museum.
Thanks to an almost $100,000 grant through FedDev Ontario, the museum is able to upgrade its antiquated electrical system.
With the upgrade, the museum will be able to book larger events and improve the heating inside the former Michigan Central Railroad shops.
The museum’s John Shapendonk explains the work undertaken.
While it is the repository of the rich railway history in St. Thomas and area, the museum is also a dynamic venue for meetings, events and weddings.
Shapendonk lists some of the events hosted to date.
And a donation of materials and labour from Steelway Building Systems further enhanced the upgrade, explains Shapendonk.
The museum has been housed in the former Michigan Central Railroad shops since its incorporation in 1989 and purchased the property in 2010.
