A 28-year veteran of the city’s fire department has been appointed deputy chief, effective immediately.
Kyle Smith moves into the position after the promotion of Deputy Chief Dave Gregory to chief on a full-time basis in September.
Gregory notes, “Kyle’s leadership and personality will serve St. Thomas Fire well in his new capacity.”
Smith tells myFM what he is going to miss most working out of an office instead of a fire vehicle.
He says he is eager to take on the new responsibilities that come with being deputy chief.
Smith joined the service in 1994 and has been recognized for his personal and professional growth as he advanced through the ranks.
Smith said a priority is to look at automatic aid scenarios with neighbouring municipalities.
Smith stresses it is all about working with people.
In announcing the promotion, Fire Chief Gregory praised Smith for his dedication and commitment to the city and the fire service.
