To help recover from the economic hit delivered by the COVID-19 pandemic, Pearce Williams was the recipient last year of a substantial Ontario Trillium Foundation grant.
Located west of Fingal, the Pearce Williams summer camp is a venue where young people discover the world around them while promoting success, self-confidence and self-esteem.
Executive Director Joe Richards tells myFM the money was directed toward two different areas.
Richards adds the hiring of Jory Elliott as marketing director has had “a positive impact on the organization and its mission.”
Since 1960, Pearce Williams has been a place for children and youth to meet, grow and learn. To accomplish that, the camp relies on a dedicated and energetic staff.
Last year at the height of the pandemic, Pearce Williams found itself short staffed.
And last spring, Pearce Williams welcomed campers back to the camp for the first time in two years, beginning with a Re-Engage Youth Weekend in April.
Known for its ideal location as a summer camp or retreat facility, Pearce Williams is about to go greener.
Thanks to a separate $125,000 provincial grant, the camp is doing its bit to become more environmentally conscious, says Richards.
The hope, adds Richards, is to apply for federal funding to install heat pumps, replace insulation and install more efficient windows and doors.
