Forty Grade 7 and 8 students on Tuesday roamed the aisles of Walmart, loading up on gifts to their heart’s content.
It was all part of the second Shop with a Cop event where the kids were issued with $100 gift cards and went on a shopping binge accompanied by members of the St. Thomas Police Service.
And what some of the students did with the money was inspiring notes police service corporate communication coordinator Tanya Calvert.
She adds the idea is to allow the kids to get what they really want for Christmas.
The students were nominated by their school to receive a gift card to spend in any way they want.
The event is made possible through corporate sponsors like Doug Tarry Homes and Geerlinks Home Hardware.
If the inaugural event wasn’t proof enough, this year’s Shop with a Cop clinched the deal.
Calvert says there is no doubt this will be an ongoing event.
Businesses interested in participating in next year’s Shop with a Cop are asked to contact the St. Thomas Police Service to see how they can get involved.
