Ontario’s chief medical officer of health says respiratory illnesses that have overwhelmed children’s hospitals across the province over the past two months may be starting to ease.
Dr. Kieran Moore says he believes flu season may have peaked in Ontario as the number of people testing positive for influenza decreased last week, and the rate of test positivity has also gone down.
He says there has also been a slight decrease in respiratory syncytial virus, and the number of children being admitted to hospital has shown a steady decline.
But Moore warns that R-S-V will persist and present continued pressure on children’s hospitals.
