The CASO station, the location of MPP Rob Flack’s constituency office, will be the site of a noon-hour rally today. ACORN Canada – an independent national organization of low- and moderate-income people – is protesting a section of Bill 23, The More Homes Built Faster Act dealing with rental apartments. One provisions of Bill 23 takes away the power cities have to institute or keep their rental replacement bylaws – a tool that requires developers to offer replacement units at the same rent to existing tenants in case of demolition or conversion to condos. According to ACORN, this could lead to the loss of several hundred thousand units of affordable housing in the province.
