The province’s police watchdog is investigating an incident early Thursday morning involving a possible impaired driver.
St. Thomas Police had been alerted to an erratic driver in the area of the Hwy. 3 onramp to First Avenue.
The motorist had failed to remain at the scene of a collision.
The vehicle was spotted on Balaclava Street but failed to stop for police.
Shortly after, the vehicle lost control on Talbot Street and hit a cement planter on the sidewalk. The driver was arrested a short distance away.
The Special Investigations Unit investigates incidents involving police officers where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
With their involvement, St. Thomas Police will not be able to provide any further information.
