St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital has declared a COVID-19 outbreak in the Acute Medical Unit on the 4th floor.
Seven patients have tested positive for the virus.
The hospital is working in partnership with Southwestern Public Health to monitor the situation and undertake additional testing.
General visiting to the 4th floor is restricted until further notice. Exceptions may be made for palliative or critical care patients and those requiring an essential caregiver.
According to the latest data reported by the health unit, the overall COVID-19 risk in the health unit’s region is high with the trend increasing compared to last week.
The positivity rate in the region remains high at 14 per cent, with the number of new cases, new hospitalizations and outbreaks all increasing.
