Luton’s Shelby Laidlaw is golden.
The East Elgin Secondary School student was part of Canada’s U-18 Women’s World Hockey Championship team. Canada defeated hosts Sweden 10-0 in the gold medal game to claim the championship. Luton is located just southeast of Aylmer.
Caitlin Kraemer scored four goals and set some records . By completing the hat trick within the opening 12 minutes, the 16-year-old set a record for fastest three goals by a player at the tourney. She also passed Marie-Philip Poulin for most goals by a Canadian in the tournament. She finished with 10.
Canada barely snuck by Finland 3-2 in overtime in the semi-finals.
