Fresh Start Support Services is proposing to build a 12-unit affordable housing project for women and young children at 118 Centre Street in St. Thomas.
The organization is requesting city council at this afternoon’s (Tuesday) meeting consider a request for a $600,000 grant or $50,000 per unit for House of Homes.
The facility will include a dozen two-bedroom apartments and a large communal program space for the women and their families.
Eleven units would be for families as part of a one-year transitional housing program and the 12th unit would be emergency housing for women-led families experiencing homelessness.
Subject to securing all funding, construction is scheduled to begin in June of this year with occupancy by December of 2024.
More information about the project is available here.
