With a significant increase in the number of opioid-related deaths in the Southwestern Public Health region, there is an urgent need to explore all options, says the health unit’s medical officer of health.
Dr. Ninh Tran notes it is time to increase support, health services and treatment options.
Dr. Tran says the region is closing in on an opioid-related death every week.
The significant increase in opioid-related deaths in the Southwestern Public Health region in the past couple of years is due, in great part, to “a toxic supply” advises Dr. Tran.
He adds it is time to increase support, health services and treatment options.
The health unit is undertaking a feasibility study to explore whether consumption and treatment services are an option for the region.
Part of the study is a community survey now open online, explains Dr. Tran.
The survey is open through March 7.
Dr. Tran tells myFM what will transpire once the feasibility study is completed.
