A musical element was added to Alden’s Army earlier this month as a benefit concert was held for the five-year-old youngster dealing with a rare form of Ewing’s Sarcoma.
Alden Charlton has just returned from treatments in Florida and members of the band Sold for Sheep donated over $3,500 from their concert at The Back Alley.
St. Thomas firefighter Rob Eaton, a member of the band, says the fundraiser was a first for them.
He has never met Alden, however Eaton, a platoon chief, just knew he had to help “an incredible kid who is going to kick cancer’s butt.”
And Alden found himself with a bunch of new friends recently on his VIP tour of the main firehall in St. Thomas.
The St. Thomas Professional Firefighter’s Association has already donated $1,000 to assist Alden and his family as their journey continues.
Kim Destun, chief fire prevention officer, says Alden’s positive energy and spirit proved inspirational for his firefighter friends.
Destun notes Alden’s journey continues as he and his family have many hospital visits yet to come.
