Not only did she swim a personal best last week in Windsor, it propelled Rosie McCaw to a gold medal at the OFSAA swimming championships.
The Grade 10 Parkside Collegiate Institute student spoke with myFM the day after to talk about how it feels to be the best in the province in her 100-meter individual medley event.
She credits a disappointing finish the day before as motivation to swim a personal best at 1:18.69 in a photo finish with two other swimmers.
McCaw competes in multiple sports and she explains how she channeled that hunger into winning the 100-meter individual medley event.
McCaw is a former member of the Aylmer Optimist Arrows swim team.
After winning gold, she was quick to lavish praise on her support team.
That includes her coaches at Parkside Collegiate Institute and her parents, who were in the stands.
It’s not the first time the Grade 10 student has competed at OFSAA. She was a member of Parkside’s rugby team that advanced to the provincial competition last year.
McCaw talks about the team of coaches who helped make her gold-medal performance possible.
And what was the reaction of her coaches as she touched the pool wall?
McCaw has had to spend considerable time recovering from a knee injury last fall as a member of the Parkside rugby team.
Not only is she a winner in the pool, McCaw is becoming an expert in time management.
As for the future, she has her sights on a university scholarship.
And when it comes to advice and tips, Rosie points to her sister Briar, her biggest cheerleader.
McCaw was one of eight Parkside swimmers this year who advanced to OFSAA.
