Thanks to a team of volunteers at several organizations including Destination Church in St. Thomas, 101 youngsters at six schools are enjoying a nourishing lunch each school day.
Jane Schalk, program coordinator at Destination Church, tells myFM how the need has grown in the four years they have been involved.
Schalk says the program, affiliated with Eat2Learn, is funded through donations to the church.
Over the four years it has been in operation, the school food program operating out of Destination Church runs like a well-oiled machine, observes Schalk.
The lunches for 101 students are prepared at the church and then Kiwanis Club volunteers deliver them to six St. Thomas schools.
She tells myFM what students gets each school day.
The names of students who benefit from the nutritious lunches are put forth by administrators at the schools.
