The Ministry of Labour is investigating the death of an employee Wednesday morning at Elgin Feeds in Aylmer.
Aylmer Police responded to the business off John St. North.
According to their media release, an 18-year-old male employee was working in the area of a grain elevator feed when he lost his footing and fell into the shaft below.
He sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital.

Elgin Feeds Limited is grieved to announce today the tragic death of a beloved employee and family member. Ryan Laarman, aged 18, died today in a mill accident. Ryan has been a part-time employee for three years. He attended Grade 12 at St. Thomas Community Christian School.
Our hearts are deeply saddened for his parents, grandparents, brother and sisters, along with his many friends, co-workers and extended family members. Ryan was a bright light with a beaming personality who did his job with passion and enthusiasm.
We pray for God’s comfort at this painful time.
To honour Ryan and give time for our staff to grieve, Elgin Feeds mill and retail store will be closed tomorrow, March 16th and will re-open Friday, March 17th at 8:00am.
