A reminder to motorists that Talbot Street will be closed to traffic between Hincks and St. Catharines streets beginning Monday for Phase 3 of reconstruction.
This phase covers from Mary Street to Ross Street and will be undertaken in two segments.
The detour route for the first segment will use Hincks, Centre and Princess Avenue and work is expected to be completed in July.
The second segment to Ross Street should be completed in October.
The city advises maintaining access to storefronts during construction is a priority and this will be done wherever and whenever possible.
This is a continuation of Phase 2 which was completed in 2018, with further work suspended due to the pandemic.
The objective is to create “a pedestrian-friendly environment in the downtown core while renewing underground infrastructure,” according to the report to city council back in February from Ryan Pflanzer, senior project technologist.
As in the original two phases, the design includes trees, planters, benches and new streetlights.
The work will be undertaken by Cassidy Construction of London. Their bid for the project was $6.6 million, the lowest of eight bids.
