It’s a history lesson.
A culinary history lesson where you can step back in time to experience a Second World War kitchen.
Gramma’s Wartime Kitchen to be exact, a presentation this Wednesday at the Elgin County Heritage Centre.
It’s the brainchild of Dawn McClintock and Susan Buro-Hamm.
McClintock tells myFM where the inspiration for their project originated.
The presentation offers a taste of how nations lived with less and made the best of it.
It dabbles in wartime recipes impacted by rationing but nevertheless which fed a generation.
McClintock admits some of the offerings at the time were – to be quite honest – dreadful.
Their nostalgic nod to living with rationing includes a tribute to the unheralded Farmerettes, explains McClintock.
Step aboard this tasty time machine 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Elgin County Heritage Centre.
