Tereza Vanisova scored at 4:23 of overtime as the Toronto Six defeated the Minnesota Whitecaps 4-3 to win the Premier Hockey Federation’s Isobel Cup Sunday night.
Toronto is the first Canadian women’s professional hockey team to win the P-H-F championship.
We asked St. Thomas native Brittany Howard about the influence on the team of coaches Angela James, Geraldine Healey and Jessica Turi.
Howard led the team in scoring during the regular season with 16 goals and 10 assists in 20 games.
At this year’s Sports Spectacular, Howard said her focus was on a strong finish for the Toronto Six. With an overtime win Sunday night Cup, I guess it’s safe to say mission accomplished.
myFM asked Howard about the reaction on the bench when Vanisova netted the winning goal.
Howard had been named to the Canadian team to play in the league’s three-team all-star event earlier this year in Toronto.
We asked Howard when we can expect to see the Isobel Cup visit the city.
Howard had two goals and a similar number of assists in four playoff games and led the team in shots on goal with 17.
