The St. Thomas Police are sending a reminder out to residents following a significant increase in 9-1-1 hang up calls.
The service shared Saturday morning that with in a 72 hour span, they received 264 hang ups on their 9-1-1 operator.
They note that if you or your phone accidentally dial 9-1-1, to please stay on the line and talk to a communicator.
Regardless if the call was accidental or not, the service must always reconnect with the caller to ensure the person is not in need of assistance.
They add, that these types of calls use up a lot of resources that could be spared in the event of actual emergency calls, so please stay on the line.
