A 28-year-old St. Thomas resident is facing charges after driving around a road closure sign on Sunset Drive and falling into a 12-foot-deep hole.
St. Thomas police say they were called to the scene around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday for the reported crash, where a truck and trailer, along with an excavator were located in a hole in the ground.
Police say the person driving the pickup truck and trailer had gone around a road closure sign in the construction zone, hit an excavator, and fell along with the excavator into the hole.
St. Thomas Police note that upon their arrival the driver of the truck had already extricated themselves with no apparent injuries.
The driver was arrested and charged with one count Adult Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus), one count Adult Drive on Closed Highway and one count Drive – Hand Held Device.
