On May 27th, St. Thomas residents will join Canadians from coast-to-coast to once again lace up their shoes for the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s.
It’s the largest fundraising and awareness event for the Alzheimer Society Southwest Partners, which returns to Pinafore Park this month.
All you have to do to support the cause is walk 13,500 steps to celebrate and honour the people in our region who are currently living with dementia.
Leslie Rand, Director of Development with the Alzheimer Society Southwest Partners notes pledges can be collected along the way, with all money raised supporting local dementia programs and services.
It’s an important day for our local organization as over $2 million in fundraising supports is needed locally each year, just in order for the Alzheimer Society to deliver current programs. Rand adds that while the fundraising side of the day is ever so important, so is the awareness.
And as Rand notes, the number of those diagnosed with dementia keeps on growing.
Rand says that the community of St. Thomas is already stepping up to the plate in support of the Alzheimer Society as over $14,500 has already been raised, representing 73% of the total goal!
As far as what you can expect during the walk on May 27th, Rand explains.
Participants can sign up, create their teams and start fundraising by visiting WalkForAlzheimers.ca.
