It was a busy night for the St. Thomas Fire Department with three calls for service taking place in roughly a 12 hour span. It began shortly after 6 last night when crews were called to a garage fire in the north end of city.
A full callback of off duty firefighters was initiated to the blaze, which has caused an estimated $80 thousand worth of damage. Thankfully the lone resident was alerted to the fire by his dog and was able to escape the home with no injuries.
Just before 3 a.m. crews responded to smoke coming from a camper in the 800 block of Talbot Street. A smoldering fire was extinguished on the exterior of the trailer, which has been determined as suspicious.
Then this morning around 6:38, a fire was reported in the duct work at Formet Industries. Crews were on scene until 8 a.m. with another full callback of off duty personnel for added manpower. There is no damage estimate at this time as the fire was contained to the ductwork.
