In a surprise announcement, Elgin county CAO Julie Gonyou has tendered her resignation effectively immediately.
No reason was given for her departure after more than five years in the position.
She had been closely associated with the county’s 2020-2022 Strategic Plan and the 2020 Service Delivery Review.
myFM spoke with Elgin County Warden Ed Ketchabaw about determining the next step.
Ketchabaw stressed he and county council respect Gonyou’s wishes.
It’s the second time in under two months, an area municipality has seen their CAO abruptly resign.
In March, Central Elgin CAO Paul Shipway abruptly stepped away from the post.
Former St. Thomas CAO Wendell Graves was hired on an interim basis to replace Shipway for up to six months.
Ketchabaw advised, “I’m sure we will proceed and get through this as best we can.”
